What is Microblading?Cosmetic tattooing, also referred to as semi-permanent makeup, microblading, or micro pigmentation, is the process of implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin using a blade made up of tiny, sterile, disposable needles to produce the appearance of hair strokes to enhance the natural features of the face.
-
Is Microblading a tattoo?Microblading is not the same as a traditional eyebrow tattoo. Microblading differs from standard eyebrow tattooing because each hair-stroke is created by hand producing a thin, natural-looking line that blends in with existing eyebrow hair. whereas eyebrow tattoos are done with a machine and needle, often producing thicker, deeper, permanent, less natural lines that tend to expand over time. Microblading deposits pigment into upper region of the dermis, so it fades more rapidly than traditional tattooing techniques, which deposit pigment deeper. Microblading artists are not necessarily tattoo artists, and vice versa, because the techniques require different training.

What is the difference between a cosmetic tattoo and a regular tattoo? The purpose of cosmetic tattooing is to enhance the natural features of a client. Cosmetic tattooing is softer and more subtle – it is meant to be a natural-looking enhancement. Body tattoos use ink while cosmetic tattoo procedures use pigments. These pigments are designed to gently fade over time. Fading is desired as it allows the artist to make changes to color and shape over the years as the client’s natural coloration and facial changes occur.

What can I expect at my initial appointment? We will first discuss what you want to achieve with your brows, which shape would be most flattering for your face, and the color. Erika will then measure and 'pre-draw' the desired shape of the eyebrows. Once you approve, she will numb the brow area to ensure that you are completely comfortable and then use the microblading tool to cut delicate hair strokes into the skin while depositing pigment. We usually schedule at least two visits to give you the perfect result. Erika strives to make your brows look as natural as possible and works conservatively. During the second touchup, the color can be adjusted to be darker or the brows bigger or bolder if that is the desired look you want.
-
Does it hurt?It shouldn't! However, every person has a different pain threshold. Topical anesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing before and throughout your procedure to ensure a pleasant experience. Most clients say it does not hurt at all, but please let Erika know the second you feel uncomfortable. Also, ladies, remember that the timing of your cycle can affect your pain tolerance.

How long will it last and will I need a touch up?Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup that requires touch-ups. Cosmetic tattooing is considered semi-permanent as it does not wash away. However, the pigments are designed to fade over time. Factors such as aftercare, skin type, pigment color (lighter colors fade faster), and sun exposure can affect the rate at which these pigments are broken down. You must follow our aftercare instructions for the best results. Microblading can last anywhere from 11-18 months, and a touchup is recommended every year or as needed. Touch-ups are routine and expected for microblading. Please note that final results CAN NOT be guaranteed due to the nature of skin as it heals, and a follow-up appointment is required at 4-6 weeks. At the follow-up, we asses your pigment retention and make any changes necessary. People with lighter hair, correction work, or sparse eyebrows may require more than one follow-up to reach their desired look at an additional cost. An annual touch-up is necessary to retain your brow's shape and saturation of pigment.

Who cannot get a cosmetic tattooing?Pregnant or breastfeeding Currently using Accutane Have Psoriasis, Rash, Sunburn on or around brow area Have rosacea Currently undergoing cancer treatments (must be done with treatments for at least six months) Have HIV/AIDS Have hepatitis Have hemophilia Prone to keloid scars Are under the age of 18 Have Epilepsy Have Diabetes Currently ill (cold, flu, etc.) Have autoimmune Diseases Have major Heart Problems Have had Botox within 30 days of procedure Have an Allergy to Lidocaine, Tetracaine or Epinephrine Have previous permanent tattoo (done with a machine)

What factors will affect microblading?Sun exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading. The sun fades the pigment faster, so please wear sunscreen daily- if you aren't already! And and hat when you are going to be outside. Oily skin: Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur and heal lighter and powdery Smoking: Smokers may notice that their semi-permanent cosmetics fade faster Pre-care: it is important that you follow before-care instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes fish oil pills, anything with vitamin E, alcohol, caffeine, etc. Not following aftercare instructions Exfoliating acids

How will my brows look immediately after my appointment?Great! Eyebrows should compliment your face. Erika will consider your eyebrow hair, hair color, and brow bone structure. She will map out where your eyebrows should be and select a shade close to your eyebrow color, not your hair color. That way, your eyebrows blend in seamlessly. Erika will demonstrate what your eyebrows will look like before she starts the process. If there is anything you do not like, please let her know, and we can switch it up to your liking before we begin. After the first session, your brows appear much darker than the intended result and will fade over a two-week healing period. After the first session, a 6-week touch-up is required to perfect the shape and style. Some clients have more sensitive skin than others, and there is a possibility of mild redness and/or inflammation. This is usually gone within a few hours of leaving your appointment. Scabbing is very rare. Most clients experience some peeling and flaking that is not very noticeable. Do not pick! Please follow your detailed aftercare instructions.
-
What is the aftercare? Please read through pre and post care here. We will provide an aftercare kit with a cleanser and a healing balm or cream to care for your brows, along with very detailed instructions. It is important to avoid saunas, facials, steam baths, activities that will result in extreme sweating, tanning salons, sun and chlorinated or salt water pools for a minimum of a week and preferably two weeks after your procedure.
-
How do I prepare? Please refrain from alcohol, caffeine, fish oils, vitamin e, aspirin, or ibuprofen 48 hours before your appointment. Other items to avoid at least 48 hours before your microblading session include: waxing, tweezing, or threading. No botox, fillers, or chemical peels for four weeks before your appointment. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions before your appointment
-
Why do I need two sessions?Your initial visit is where we transform your brows. This is a two-step process. Some skin types accept the pigment better than others, and more pigment may be retained in one session with one person over another. We go back in and perfect some of the original strokes 6-8 weeks after the first appointment. The second appointment is where we also will add additional strokes, dimension, and shaping. Fine details, additional color, depth, or design adjustments are more easily made and cause less trauma to the skin after the initial healing is complete.
-
What is your cancellation policy?A minimum of a 48-hour notice is required to cancel or reschedule your appointment to transfer your deposit. A 15-minute grace period is extended for those clients who are running late. Anything later will be rescheduled/canceled, resulting in a forfeit of your deposit. Please plan accordingly when traveling to your appointment.
